About the formats

CII (Cross Industry Invoice)
The XML syntax defined by UN/CEFACT. It is the XML inside hybrid invoices such as Factur-X and ZUGFeRD.
UBL (Universal Business Language)
The XML syntax defined by OASIS. It is the syntax of Peppol invoices in many countries.
EN 16931
The European standard for the content of an electronic invoice. CII and UBL are two XML syntaxes that can carry it, so an invoice can be converted from one to the other.
EXTENDED
The Factur-X profile that adds fields to the EN 16931 core, such as more parties and more details on the lines.
EXTENDED-CTC-FR
The French profile for the e-invoicing reform: a subset of EXTENDED, defined with the AFNOR standard XP Z12-012.

What to expect

The converter reads your invoice, maps it to the EN 16931 semantic model and writes it in the other syntax. Invoices in the EXTENDED and EXTENDED-CTC-FR profiles are read too, and the fields that go beyond EN 16931 are carried over. In the French examples we tested, nothing is lost from CII to CII. A few fields have no place in UBL (the department of a contact, for example), and some fields of the full EXTENDED profile are not carried yet, so compare the result with your source. Automatic validation is coming soon, so check the result with your own validator before you send it to a customer or a tax platform.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between CII and UBL?

Both are XML syntaxes for the same EN 16931 invoice content. They organise and name the elements differently: CII comes from UN/CEFACT and is used by Factur-X and ZUGFeRD, UBL comes from OASIS and is used by Peppol.

Is the converted invoice valid?

Validation is not available yet: the converter maps your invoice but does not check it against EN 16931 or the rules of a specific country. It is coming soon. Until then, check the result with your own validator.

Is it free? Do I need an account?

Yes, it is free, and you do not need an account.

What happens to my invoice?

Your file is converted, and the result stays available for about ten minutes so you can view and download it. After that it is discarded.

Which versions are supported?

CII D22B and UBL 2.1, with the EN 16931, EXTENDED and EXTENDED-CTC-FR profiles. More versions can be added.
